An Easy Refashion - Foldover Elastic

Last year, Paul and I flew down to Sydney to watch Mary Poppins. It was the middle of Winter and there was nothing in my wardrobe to help me battle the cold. It was this very trip that got me started on the Winter Coat Project. Anyway, one coat was not going to be enough.

I was faced with the dilemma of not wanting to spend money on really warm stuff (knowing I'll never need it up here) and not wanting to freeze my butt off. I decided to hit the op-shops in search of some warm basics. I hit the jackpot at the very first op-shop I visited. I found two 100% wool tops. Both were by Country Road and both were quite dated with daggy 1990s turtle necks.

I decided to live with the turtlenecks during our trip, knowing they were going to be permanently covered with a much groovier scarf and my loooovley winter coat. Anyway, last week I decided to chop off the turtlenecks and create a more modern neckline. All it took was a few snips and a bit of foldover elastic and voila!

  1. That worked great! I would be nervous to try it, but it looks perfect. I really like the skirt too, btw!

  2. How clever! Now you can make some lovely new unsuitably warm things for your next travel wardrobe ;) I feel slightly sorry for the op shop donator, I bet she paid $$$$ for those tops and only wore them on holiday down south.

  4. Thats a super handy idea, I'm not a turtle neck fan but I'll have to keep this in mind for super soft sweaters I can refashion!
