Ottobre - Skirt with Flounces

Ottobre - Skirt with Flounces
Spring 1/2007 # 15

Over the weekend I used up the leftover denim from my skirt to make a skirt for Meg. It was a real struggle to squeeze this skirt out of the scraps, but I think I pulled it off. Even though the pattern calls for two pockets, I only had enough fabric for one. Also, I could only fit two flounces in the denim (even though the pattern calls for three) and these both had to have a CB seam.

The contrasting floral print is a Japanese cotton lawn from Spotlight.

I used fuchsia topstitching cotton for the pocket and piped the pocket flap.

There's not much else to say about this skirt really. I think the photos speak for themselves.

(I've temporarily used white cotton tape where a matching ribbon should be until I can justify a trip to the fabric store.)

  1. Lovely skirt on a lovely little model. Little girls are so appreciative of clothes made for them.

  2. Oh my gosh, too adorable!! You are so clever and creative with your childrens' clothes! This is so sweet, and the pocket topstitching details and piping look amazing. So clever of you to incorporate interest at both the front and the back!

  6. What a fun skirt. And look how beautifully your model is standing, with her hair so neatly brushed and groovy flower clip.

The pocket is very funky. I think it is a shame that you didn't get this entry into the Show in time.

  7. That is a lovely skirt! If my daughter or niece saw this picture they'd be batting their big brown eyes at me for one themselves :-)

Did you make the hair clip? that is really pretty too. More Little Girl Appeal there!

Thanks for the input on the Simplicity dresses! For the record, the verdict was, at the prompt of my sister-in-law when she saw the fabric irl, to sew it up now, with the pattern already worked out and fitted "That is just too lovely to put back in the cupboard till you get round to working out that other pattern [the one you sewed]!"
And I just so happen to have some plain hot pink cotton lycra poplin in my stash that would work well with it - when I have a clearer sewing plate to concentrate on it. Just thinking ofthe piping now. Black? Bright purple? Turquoise?
    Oh the possibilities!

    :-D

  10. You wouldn't believe how many times I've looked at your daughter's skirt and thought how cute it is, how much I love the ruffles, the pockets, the top stitching. Then I realised I hadn't actually commented - Sorry. Love your work :)
