Burdastyle - Louisa Vest

Burdastyle - Louisa Vest

We're only a few days into winter and I've already begun plans to pack away my Winter Coat. Seems a bit odd huh! It got plenty of wear last weekend while visiting Sydney. However, I've now returned home and things are not so chilly. With minimum temperatures of 14 degrees and maximums of 28, the coat is definitely overkill.

And so, to keep the spirit of my Winter Coat alive here in the tropics, I've made a mini version - the Louisa vest by Burdastyle. The actual pattern for this is quite cropped. I added 8-10 cm to the length. I also added the pockets. More on those later.

I used the rest of my wool/mohair fabric for the shell, teal cotton voile for the lining and the japanese cotton lawn that I lined my coat with, to line the pockets. Now I can wear my vest, while pondering the happy memories of spending that one sensational weekend with/in my coat.

A few details:

Styled with shiny metal bow-tie necklace. I love this necklace, but do you think it looks a little silly when paired with the vest?

Overall, I'm happy with my vest. It's quite a nice 'warm' addition to my wardrobe.

  5. Love the necklace! Great vest - lucky you to NOT need winter clothing - I'm shivering here - even though it is a lovely sunny day. Love the sneakers as well!

  6. This looks just gorgeous, and definitely with that cute necklace! I'm like Mary Nanna, and always admire them when I see them on other people but have yet to add one to my own wardrobe. Yours is very inspiring.
And good idea to add a bit of length. I hope it is cool enough for you to wear it lots during your beautiful tropical winters!

  7. I think your necklace is great and your vest looks fantastic. It must have been very cropped to need the extra length. Hope you had fun in Sydney.

  8. I love this vest! The color is fantastic! The last vest I made was cropped and next time I want it longer like yours. The buttons make my day--but I love little things like that:) The necklace is great, wear it with everything.
