My Winter Coat - Finished!

Simplicity 2508

I've finally finished my winter coat. Yay! I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!

This coat is, without a doubt, my magnum opus. Consequently,  I've spent much of the week stroking it lovingly and tenderly. This is the first sewing project I have embarked on that has required so much detail, precision and time. It has been an incredible journey. The destination is awesome! Sydney here I come!  (4 more sleeps!)

Those of you who read my last post would know that I sought professional help with fitting my muslin across my shoulders. My square, broad shoulders just were not coming to the party. Lucky for me, the sewing angels sent me Robyn and all was well in sewing land once again.

And now if you'll humour me, I'll show off a few of the details.

The front:

The side:

The back:

Sleeves with tabs and patch pockets:

Bound buttonholes:

Lining pocket:

During the week, the fabric has dropped a little (the weave is quite loose) so I will have to fix the hemline...not to worry.

Fabric:
- Italian Wool/Mohair from Emmaonesock
- Japanese cotton lawn from Spotlight

IN SEWING NEWS

I am currently halfway through making a vest with the leftover fabric from the coat. Let's face it, despite it's beauty, I won't actually be spending much time with my coat. It would take another ice-age for someone in Cairns to wear a coat like this. A vest however, will get a lot more loving.

  12. simply stunning - what a tour de force - so glad you didn't end up with fabregret.. good investment to get yourself some help - such a shame you won't to get to wear it very often though, I suppose climate change won't help in that direction either .. oh well lots of travel ahead then eh?
