Pretty Fete Cakes

This weekend was the annual school fete. As usual, I whipped up a storm in the kitchen the night before and made as many cupcakes as I could handle. I stuck to a simple buttercake recipe and simply iced them in glace icing. Despite having a preference for the sumptuous taste of ganache or the aesthetic appeal of buttercream, living in the tropics means that options are limited - no one wants a sloppy, melty mess on top of their cupcakes! So glace icing it is. Last year I did run with fondant but decided to take the quicker, simpler road this year.

The fancy boxes! There's something about a cake box that tricks even the cook into thinking the cake inside is something special!
